What is Title IX?

Title IX is a federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex or gender in education programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance. The prohibition of sex discrimination includes prohibition of sexual harassment and sexual violence as well. The law is designed to promote educational equity and opportunity for students across the country.  

The University of Hartford strictly prohibits discrimination in admissions, educational programs and services, and employment on the basis of race, color, religious creed, age, marital status, national origin, ancestry, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, genetic information, veteran status and any other basis protected by law. The University is committed to preventing or eliminating all forms of gender-based discrimination in its education programs or activities in accordance with its commitment to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The University is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination and harassment. 

The University of Hartford strives to promote a welcoming environment for pregnant and parenting individuals. The Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX Compliance address concerns about discrimination related to these statuses and offer services to pregnant, and parenting individuals. Notice of the University Equal Opportunity and Title IX Coordinator 

The Executive Director for Equal Opportunity and Title IX Compliance serves as the University's Title IX Coordinator and is the designated agent of the University with responsibilities for coordinating Title IX compliance efforts. They oversees the implementation of grievance procedures, including the notification, investigation, and disposition of complaints, ensuring a fair and neutral process for all parties. Additionally, they has been designated to handle inquiries regarding non-discrimination policies, including oversight of 504/ADA and Title IX compliance, and questions regarding the policy.
